hydranose: venue check-in rewards via QR code
open unclassified Project: experiencenet Reporter: 14 Sep 2026 07:00

Description

Goal

Motivate visitors to check in at a venue.

Concept

A device or display at the venue shows a QR code.

  • A visitor scans the QR code and joins ExperienceNet.
  • If the visitor has the app of that venue (for example the Natural Beauty Club app), the check-in gives a reward. The reward is fixed or random.

Name

Proposed name: hydranose. It follows the Hydra anatomy convention (head, body, neck, eyes, guard). The nose senses who is near: it detects presence at the venue. Note: the user recalls that 'the nose of the hydra' was described like this before, but no earlier description was found in the issue tracker, the hydra docs, or memory. If an earlier description exists, link it here.

Hardware candidate

M5Stack Dial v1.1: ESP32-S3 smart rotary knob with a 1.28 inch round touch display. It can show the QR code and give haptic or visual feedback on the reward.

Related hardware track: #697 (hydraamulet, Waveshare ESP32-S3 wearable) and #700 (experiencenet_amulet 2.4 GHz SSID). The Dial is also an ESP32-S3, so it can reuse the same 2.4 GHz venue SSID and firmware groundwork.

Open questions

  • Fixed reward, random reward, or both (venue setting)?
  • How does the QR code link the check-in to the venue app identity (iamnim)?
  • Is the QR code static per venue or rotating per session (anti-fraud)?
  • Does the reward live in ExperienceNet or in the venue app (for example OpenSEO / thenaturalbeautyclub.com)?
