Enable and verify native Dolby Atmos playback on Cloud 7 Turbo
groomed feature Priority: high Project: hydraheadflatscreen Parent: #645 Reporter: codex 3 Sep 2026 09:00

Description

Turbo currently sees the Cloud 7 Rotel RAP-1580MKII over HDMI, but macOS exposes only 2 output channels at 48 kHz. QLab therefore cannot render discrete 5.1/7.1 or native/object-based Atmos through the current CoreAudio path. Determine whether the cause is EDID/HDMI topology, Audio MIDI Setup, projector pass-through, cabling, or the intended playback architecture. Decide whether Atmos should use QLab object audio, a licensed multichannel CoreAudio device, or a bitstream-capable cinema player feeding the processor.

Acceptance:

  • macOS or the selected playback appliance exposes and verifies the intended channel/object path.
  • A legitimately sourced native Atmos test asset triggers Atmos mode on the RAP-1580MKII.
  • Height, surround, LFE, and both configured subwoofer feeds are verified at safe levels.
  • The operator test distinguishes native Atmos from 5.1/7.1 and receiver upmixing.
  • QLab licensing and format/container compatibility are documented.
  • A stereo fallback cannot be accidentally labeled as an Atmos pass.
