Validate Hydra Unreal Template / Hydragon baseline with the WiVRn build on MSI1060
open feature Project: hydragon Parent: #615 Reporter: 15 Sep 2026 18:46

Description

User-requested separate acceptance task, 2026-09-15. The successful WiVRn stream of HelloHydra XR proves the transport; it does not yet validate the Unreal template through that runtime.

Baseline: Hydra Unreal Template (hydraunrealtemplate), native Linux build 2, live for bxl1/ad6; MSI1060 node-d71b197c (Omarchy, GTX 1060), Hydra ExperienceNet organization slug experiencenet. UE 5.7.3 C++ smoke cube with hands-only OpenXR preparation; full Hydragon gameplay is not implemented. Native artifact SHA256 e7c13af4515e80a87163f08c45afb48362014e4f546da22f9d3ea16d82013d19. Flat rendering/body launch verified; most recent flat launch 2026-09-15 18:32:23 UTC. Repository evidence: https://github.com/cederikdotcom/hydraunrealtemplate/blob/master/docs/deployment-status.md

Acceptance:

  • Record the exact hydra-wivrn server commit/release, matching headset client build, headset model, OpenXR runtime manifest, UE package checksum, GPU/driver and actual network path. Use the WiVRn build agreed for this validation, not an unspecified system runtime.
  • On MSI1060 in an agreed test window, preserve the working HelloHydra XR setup and launch the native Unreal template from the interactive desktop with -vr and the selected WiVRn runtime. Do not globally replace runtime/configuration as a shortcut.
  • Verify actual stereo in both eyes, head 6DoF and floor origin. Mode=XRUnavailable / a desktop preview is a failure to validate XR.
  • Prove 26 current joints independently for each hand in Unreal, without controllers; verify loss clears markers/data and recovery restores them. Record relevant [HydraXR] logs and headset observations.
  • Run a sustained session, recording duration, measured frame rate/frame times, transport settings, Unreal/OpenXR/encoder/Vulkan logs and new kernel GPU faults. Account explicitly for open compositor feature issue #728; a visible image does not waive validation errors.
  • Verify stop/relaunch and a flat -nohmd regression run, and restore the prior working stream setup. Do not stop an existing user session to begin validation.
  • Attach results and reproduction commands to this issue and the template deployment log; only then describe this Unreal build as WiVRn-validated.
