Strategic track from hydraheadquest #544 policy (2026-08-26): WiVRn IS an OpenXR runtime (Monado + streaming), fully open source, zero accounts (no Steam, no Meta), AMD-friendly, serves Quest and Pico clients. Linux-only server, which fits this pipeline.
Spike scope: stand up a Linux body (existing #508 infrastructure), install WiVRn, run an OpenXR title (native Linux build or the Windows build under Proton), stream to the Quest 2 test head over the mesh, compare latency/quality against the ALVR/SteamVR chain validated on chunky. Outcome: go/no-go on Linux XR bodies as the long-term account-free architecture for both headset families. CloudXR was evaluated and rejected (proprietary runtime layer, NVIDIA-only).
